To most Wii Fit might seem like a humble videogame, but to Nintendo and a lot of sporting associations around the world, it's a very nifty piece of kit that can be used to benefit real-life sports training.
Speaking to GameInformer, Wii Fit inventor Shigeru Miyamoto explained about the interest Nintendo had received about the Balance Board outside of the videogames industry:
"...The other thing that we’ve found is that in sports training there are devices that are very similar to what the Balance Board does that are used for coaching athletes on their golf swing or while they’re pitching, and what we’ve learned is that these devices are running around $20,000, even though their technical capability is pretty much on par with what the Balance Board can do—which with a price point of about $100 is much cheaper."
