Jaffe's plea: Base Spider-Man: Web of Shadows on God of War

In a full-blown "for the fans" plea to the developers behind the upcoming Spider-Man: Web of Shadows in his personal blog, Ex-God of War director David Jaffe asks Treyarch and Shaba Games that they don't make the same mistakes as so many previous games featuring the superhero:

"Please stop putting Spiderman games in big open sandbox environments where you swing around and do oh so slight variations on 4 pretty dull mission types (chase/race/collect/etc) and then once in a while toss in a boss fight and/or a somewhat unique mission," he begins.

Jaffe adds that Web of Shadows should revel in the comic book character's rich narrative, and centre the game on that instead of just his unique abilities.

"I'm not suggesting you take the powers away," he continues. I AM suggesting a much more scripted experience that allows players to revel in what makes the comics upon which the game is based so special. Have like 3 really amazing web slinging areas that really show that mechanic off in a fun, excitingly designed way. Just don't base the WHOLE game around it."

We're not holding out too much hope for all of this really, but at least we have the Nintendo Wii's Balance Board controls to get excited about.
