2K Sports' fast paced boxing sim arrives on Nintendo Wii later this year with the promise of giving, in the words of the game's executive producer Matthew Seymour, an experience with the potential to get players "pretty damn fit."
From what we can gather, the accessory's part seems like it could be isolated from the main game, coming into its own in the pre-fight environment where players will centre their training regime around it – like a Rocky Balboa workout with a weighing scales instead of the carcasses of cattle.
2K Sports has divulged that a team of boxing professionals have been roped in to put together Prizefighter's exercise routines, while a Wii Fit-esque BMI indicator will be able to let you know how you're progressing. Expect punch bags, skipping (where the Wii Remote is housed in your back pocket) and sparring as you sweat your way from forlorn wimp to confident boxing champion.
The career mode is the real meat and potatoes of Prizefighter. In it, players work themselves up through the ranks in the world of professional boxing, dealing with responsibilities outside of the ring - training and media attention - as well as the pressure of knocking people out on fight night.
That the Balance Board doesn't seem to be an integral part of Don King Presents: Prizefighter is a disappointment, making us think that 2K Sports didn't intend to include its compatibility from the beginning, and that its support might have been added at a later stage to capitalise on the desires of Wii Fit owners itching to make more out of their newest piece of videogaming kit.
Still, if there's one thing we're sure of, and that's if Don King Presents: Prizefighter is half as physically exhausting as Wii Sports Boxing, then we're in for some degree of punishment when it is released this Autumn.
