Preview: We Ski

Already available in North America, but released in Europe very soon, Namco Bandai's We Ski is the second title (the other is obviously Wii Fit) to make use of the Wii Balance Board accessory.

Players stand on the Balance Board, leaning left and right to carve their way down the snowy pistes, propelling their movement with purposeful thrusts of the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. Like Wii Fit’s skiing mini-game, tucking the controller into your sides sees your character leaning forward to become more aerodynamic and gain speed.

You'll be able to explore 14 different courses either as one of the game's generic anime-style character or select one of the Miis that you have created, performing all sorts of challenges throughout your time on the mountain at the Happy Ski resort.

There are over 150 tasks to complete, from downhill and slalom races to delivering food parcels and rescuing skiers stranded on the mountainside. You'll be awarded a grade depending on how successful you are in each, which will lead to the unlocking of extras from souvenir photographs to new accessories for your avatar.

From the opinion already out there, We Ski isn't the comprehensive winter sports title that the Balance Board is begging for (its difficulty is said to be a little on the easy side, and disappointingly the accessory can only be used in single player, not any of the modes for up to four players), but as something fresh for those in need of a distraction from Wii Fit, it looks like it does the job just fine for now.

We Ski launches in Europe on June 13.
