Wii Fit's real benefits being overlooked says BBC

Wii Fit has been at the centre of much heated discussion over its ability to really change the gaming world's approach to exercise (Balance Board Blog even recently posed a question as to whether Nintendo's innovative product had failed), but one writer reckons a lot of people are looking at the situation all wrong.

In an article in which discusses the present and future amalgamation of videogaming, technology and sport, the BBC's Margaret Robinson praises the impact exer-gaming has had on millions of people's lives, and sticks up for Wii Fit in particular, after many have dismissed that it has real benefits on the health of its users:

"Those who only look to measure [Wii Fit's] cardio-vascular effects risk missing the real benefit it does to people's hearts..." says Robinson. "It helps associate physical activity with feeling good, not feeling bad, and that's a powerful, life-changing shift."

We guess it's a point that's been mentioned a lot - any exercise is better than none at all - but never loudly enough to shout down the cries of "just go outside for a run!"

I totally agree.

Even though Wii Fit is not a proper "workout" - I am glad that it gets kids (and adults) into doing SOMETHING! And once they realize that sweating a little can be fun - they are more likely to take up a real sport or gym class.

It's all about exposure baby!

Defintely. =)

I think there were perhaps mixed messages in the whole Wii Fit wave of hype over its real cardio benefits, but as for encouraging exercise, it's great.

Thanks for reading the blog. =)

All the "bad press" was probably just a bunch of Microsoft viral marketers doing their job.

Wii Fit is what you make it to be - a novelty, a tool, or a trampoline to start a new, healthy life. :P
