Pilotwings Wii and Balance Board in 2009?

For many, Pilotwings is Nintendo's most brilliant franchise; an oft-serene experience that allowed players to complete air-based challenges using all manner of transport.

The last game in the series, Pilotwings 64, was released in 1996, so a sequel is long overdue. Rumours of a Wii version for the franchise have been around for years, and now LiveWii claims to have information that it will materialise during the first half of 2009.

Not only that, but the site also claims that the game will support Wii Balance Board, as well as Miis.

Just rumour and speculation for now, but wouldn't it be great if it all came true?

Family Ski and Snowboard / We Ski and Snowboard hits Europe Feb 27

Namco Bandai has officially confirmed that Family Ski and Snowboard (We Ski and Snowboard in the US) will hit the slopes in Europe on February 27th, 2009.

The Wii Balance Board-supported sequel to last year's Family Ski / We Ski builds on the original in a number of ways (not least including the ability to snowboard this time around!). There's bigger mountains, more missions and - hopefully - more fun!

Steel Battalion Wii supports Wii Balance Board?

In a Japanese press conference, Capcom has apparently confirmed that it is adapting the Xbox's Steel Battalion for the Nintendo Wii, and that it will include support for the Wii Balance Board.

In Steel Battalion, players take control of massive bi-pedal mecha on a variety of dangerous missions. The original game came with a huge, $200 USD controller that acted as the dashboard for the robot, and quickly became a collector's piece.

Capcom explains that with the Wii Remote, Nunchuck, Wii Wheel and Wii Balance Board, this whole experience can be re-created... and for a whole lot less wonga - around $45 USD.

Vertigo Wii released in Europe on March 20?

Updated release schedules for the Nintendo Wii in Europe are now showing that Play Logic's Wii Balance Board-supported racer, Vertigo, will be released in the region on March 20, 2009.

Previous confirmation had only had the game down as being launched in 'Q1 2009', so it's pleasing to see the window narrowed down. Still, it's far from official confirmation, and it could change as the date approaches.

Still no word on Vertigo's US release.

We Ski sells over 1 million copies worldwide

Bandai Namco has recently announced that the Wii Balance Board-supported We Ski has sold in excess of 1 million copies across the world.

The wintry title was the first third-party title to support the Wii Balance Board, and its sales have no doubt been helped by its budget price.

Its sequel We Ski and Snowboard is released in March, so there's still plenty of time to get a flavour for it with the original.

Gold's Gym Cardio Boxing Workout Wii supports Wii Balance Board?

Edit: Yes it does! Grab your copy from Amazon.com here.

Perhaps we're setting ourselves up for a fall in the same way that we were with My Fitness Coach, but a listing has recently popped up for Gold's Gym Cardio Boxing for the Nintendo Wii.

There are no specific details available about the Ubisoft-published game, but with the Gold's Gym Branding and them being keen supporters of the Wii Balance Board, could the title possibly offer something like Wii Fit's cardio boxing, and more besides?

Could it even be a localised version of Rocket Company's Japan-only Shape Boxing?

Time will tell, as the game is currently estimated for release in March 2009.

Skate It Wii Review

Skate It takes place in San Venelona, a city left in ruins after a mysterious natural disaster. While this is terrible news for most people, for extreme sports enthusiasts, it leaves the most amazing playground for experimentation. The game whisks you along, giving you the freedom to complete the many, many challenges it lays in front on a journey to experience the thrill of gaining sponsors and the coveted title of Skater of the Year.

Skate It makes the most ambitious use of the Wii Balance Board to date, allowing basic steering by tilting back and forth, and allowing players to perform tricks by tapping different quadrants of the accessories surface. Basic movement, let alone any fancy stunts, is difficult to get the hang of at first, but with a little perserverence, you'll discover that Skate It's Wii Balance Board controls add an element of immersion that traditional controls could never match.

San Venelona and Skate It's other locations (European locales which you'll experience from time to time) aren't the most ambitiously detailed on the Nintendo Wii, but the rugged, gritty landscapes do have a sense of charm, and the whole thing chugs along at a slick pace throughout. You'll not see another soul on your trip, but the likelihood is that you'll be too hooked on skating or creating custom trick lines to notice. It's all backed by a suitably no-nonsense soundtrack, made up of artists including The Clash, LL Cool J, and Suicidal Tendencies.

Expect to finish the career mode in around 8 hours, but get drawn in by the multiplayer options and you'll squeeze a lot more gameplay out of Skate It.

It may lack polish in certain areas, but in Wii Balance Board terms, if you're looking for a 'hardcore' option away from the likes of Wii Fit and Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party, Skate It is your best bet yet for extreme sports thrills.

As the fourth WiiWare game to support the Wii Balance Board, Equilibrio looks like being perfectly suited to the accessory. With that in mind, here are more details about the marble-rolling downloadable title.

After two previous outings on the Nintendo Wii, Ubisoft's Rabbids are back with a bang, and this time they're invading the TV schedules. The Wii Balance Board is supported in around a third of the 65+ comedic mini-games, which spoof pop culture, advertising and TV classics. Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party is also touted as the first game you can play using your back side - sit on the Balance Board and hold on tight!
